IHWT urgently looking for items for Charity Auction
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT), Ireland’s leading equine welfare charity, is launching its third Christmas Internet Auction. The online auction begins on November 26 but auction items are urgently needed now.
Sharon Newsome, director of the IHWT, explains: “We need items, value of €100 or more, to ensure the success of the 2010 Online Auction. We encourage all horse lovers and welfare supporters to assist us in this vital fund raising initiative.”
In 2008, a major capital appeal helped the IHWT to buy the farm where it is currently caring for over 60 horses. Residents at the farm currently include rescued horses and ponies of various types, sizes and ages, along with14 ex-racehorses which are in a special programme to be retrained for re-homing having completed a racing career.
In 2005 the first online auction was very successful and in the region of €170,000 gross was raised, in 2009 more than €75,000 was raised and this time it is hoped to raise even more. Despite the current financial climate, everyone involved with the IHWT is optimistic that the target can be reached.
Newsome says: “We are asking all horse lovers and racing fans to donate items for the auction and also to log on to the IHWT website from Friday 26th November to Monday 6th December to bid on items. It is an ideal way to buy your Christmas presents.
The IHWT remains grateful to all those individuals, stud farms and industry bodies that have contributed so generously and which made it possible to purchase the farm. It has been a very important move for the Charity and one that will help secure its future and allow for its upcoming developments also.
Intake and preparation of the full catalogue of items is now underway and the internet auction will take place from Friday November 26th to Monday December 6th. Items can be collected from donors if necessary and further information is available by contacting:
